Nearly round leaves are heart-shaped and have dentate margins. Waxy-yellow buttercup-like flowers are produced in early spring. Usually grows 1-1.5 ft. in shallow water up to 4 - 5 in. deep or in soggy soil around the pond or stream. Is notorious for going dormant during the summer when placed in full sun in hot summers. When in shady areas or shaded by other plants as they grow it will flourish.
